Choice is the ability to make decisions when presented with two or more options.
Making choices is an integral part of our daily lives and basically everything is a choice. The greatest power that has been given to human beings is the power of choice.
Researchers claim that we make over 200 choices every day on food alone, now imagine how many other choices we make daily that will affect our physical well-being. Things like, the food we eat, choosing water over soda, stairs over the elevator, to sleep or stay awake, the people we meet, etc. When it comes right down to it, every situation is a choice and there are consequences attached.
There are many people who claim, “the devil made me do it”, “everybody does it”, “I am only human”, or “that is just who I am”. What they fail to realize is that, the decision was a choice and they did whatever it was because they wanted to.
Right choices are decisions that keep you heading in the direction you want to go. Bad choices on the other hand, can degenerate into a stressful, injurious or confusing situation.
It is essential to ensure that the choices you make are related with your goals. If for instance, you have a goal of building a successful career, then making decisions to party excessively will most likely lead to regret or delay in the nearest future regardless of how good it all feels now because it is at odds with your career goal.
A choice involves at least two options, both of which have pros and cons associated with them. Trim down the choices you have by prioritizing.
Sometimes we choose what is easiest and what would bring immediate gratification. The easiest choice is not always the right choice, sometimes it is the wrong choice.
Learn to be patient when making decisions.
If you have two options and you pause at the point of decision making, the very fact that you have paused before pursuing one course of action over another suggests that the decision can’t be taken at that moment.
Reflecting on the reasons that made you hesitate can help you understand the situation more clearly. From this perspective you’ll be able to make a more informed decision.
Your choice is your power, don’t let anyone take it from you. Remember you make your choices and your choices turn around and make you.
Your choice is your advantage and your uniqueness, take your time to make it. Because you end up living with the choices you make be it good or bad.
